The Wood Brothers Mesa Concert reviews
Amazing show!
I bought the tickets as a birthday present for my son and I, both fans of the movies. Greeted with displays of the original costumes, props and even the score, I knew then this was going to be a great evening. "The Wood Brothers in Concert" was worth every penny.
After the intermission, Daniels' picks it up at "SW IV-A New Hope" leading us thru rebellion/retaliation/restoration where at the end Anakin is restored to an agent of good, a man at peace. That's just the first act. Anthony Daniels (voice of C3PO) masterfully recounts the epic tale of Anakin Skywalker; from his humble beginnings as a boy on Tattoine thru to his early Jedi training and as the Clone Wars rage on, his turn to the dark side of the force as apprentice to the clandestine-rising emperor. I wish George Lucas would have used this script (specifically for "SW I-III") to tell the story. The story Daniels' tells was moving as it weaved its path from a person's rise to galactic hero, to his regrettable fall and finally to his restoration (with the help of his son) and he does it so well the listener is engaged in the story and not just CGI effects. This was good storytelling.
The symphony playing the music was well rehearsed; the balance/mix of instruments perfect (Audio Engineering at its finest!). The maestro (and this man truly embodies the word) conducts a brilliant group of musicians thru a score that is so loved and familiar to us all. The pressure was on to get it right and he did.
The light show was incredible. I'll leave it at - you just need to see it!
As a person who works in the entertainment industry, I've paid to see only one show this year - this was it. Check it out when it comes to your town!
